While out for a rare day of sunshine, I stopped at the Big Qualicum River and watched some Tundra Swans swimming. It was interesting to watch nature’s life cycle. At the bottom of the river there were some dead salmon that had not survived their return to spawn. Nature, not letting anything go to waste, used the dead salmon to provide food to the swans and sea gulls that were swimming. What isn’t eaten will decay and fertilize the trees and shrubs along the bank of the river.
