Yard Engine

Vancouver Island has a rich history in trees and lumber. Throughout the Island one can see evidence of this. Todays picture is what I believe was a yard engine used within an early mill. I look at old pieces of machinery, such as this, and wonder about their story. Who built it? How was it used? I think about the excitement when it was new, and how, as it became older and less reliable, it eventually was pushed into a corner of the yard and left for rust.

The picture was taken near Port Alberni in the McLean historical mill.
